In the first quarter of 2017, global crude steel production was 4.105 billion tonnes, up 5.7 percent year on year. Asian crude steel production in the first quarter was 280.6 million tonnes, up 5.4 percent year on year. European crude steel production in the first quarter was 42.5 million tons, up 3.8 percent year on year. North American crude steel production in the first quarter was 29.3 million tons, up 7.1% year on year. CIS crude steel production in the first quarter was 25.9 million tons, up 4.0% year on year.
China's crude steel production in March 2017 was 72 million tonnes, up 1.8% year-on-year. Japan's crude steel production in March was 8.9 million tons, up 1.8% year on year.
